Does WestESIM function on a cruise ship while at sea between ports?

Updated April 22, 2026

WestESIM, like all standard mobile eSIMs, operates by connecting to land-based cellular towers. Consequently, while your cruise ship is navigating open waters, far from shore, cellular service will not be available. However, WestESIM will immediately activate and provide robust 4G/LTE connectivity as soon as your ship docks at any port of call, such as Miami, Nassau, or San Juan. For at-sea connectivity, you would need to purchase the ship's satellite Wi-Fi package.
